The team here at Planning Insight were instructed to obtain planning permission for the extension, and remodelling of the original convent school at St Joseph’s College. A Grade II listed building, and as such was identified at an early stage, the appropriate development was required to preserve the important historic character.
It was our goal to secure permission, and listed building consent, for the extension and the remodelling of the original convent school.
We worked closely with officers at the council to overcome concerns with regard to heritage, ecology and transport impacts. Planning permission and listed building consent were both achieved in 2015.
Following the success of achieving this permission, we were later instructed to obtain permission for two Multi Use Games Areas (MUGA) in the School grounds. We faced a significant level of local opposition on the grounds of noise and light pollution, together with objections from other council departments. However, using our extensive experience of working on the original project, we negotiated with the officers of Reading Council Planning Department, to overcome these concerns.
A double success! Planning permission for the entrance and updated staff facilities and listed building consent was achieved in 2015, with permission granted for the Games Area at the Reading Planning Committee in 2016. Following these successes, we have submitted a number of applications on behalf of the college, including an application for a new music block and the discharge of subsequent conditions attached to these decisions.
- Several approved planning applications within the setting of a grade II listed building.
- Successful working relationship with the officers at the council to shape a resolve.
“We have used Planning Insight for a number of years, delivering permissions for several projects. We find them very responsive and appreciative of our requirements. We have no hesitation in recommending them to others”.
