Commercial Street Advert

Council

London Borough of Tower Hamlets

About the Project:

We prepared an advertisement application for 2 large advertisement panels set within a scaffolding shroud on a prominent plot at the corner of Wentworth Street and Commercial Street, which is occupied by a grand, Grade II listed building.

We were aware that the size of the advertisements, the building’s listed status, the grand character of the surrounding Conservation Area, and the local authority’s resistance meant the scheme was likely to go to appeal. We prepared a robust case, setting out that the building would need to be scaffolded in any event due to essential repairs. The Inspector accepted our argument regarding the fallback position and granted consent for 2 large, illuminated, high-value advertisement panels to this listed building.

Project Highlights

  • No planning or listed building consent in place – advertisment consent sought only
  • 2 large, illuminated advertisement panels to listed building in prominent location
  • No amendments made to the scheme
  • Secured at appeal
